2.2. POWER SUPPLY
BY PRODUCING EACH ONE-TON OF ROD, THE UPCASTING MACHINE CONSUMES ELECTRICITY AT 380 KWH/T APPROXIMATELY.
THE AUXILIARY MACHINES, NOT INCLUDING THE FURNACES, CONSUME 85 KW MINIMUM INPUT POWER OF THE STAND-BY POWER SUPPLY: 150 KW
THE ABOVE DATA WAS MEASURED WHEN THE MELTING FURNACE IS AT ITS BEST WORKING STATE WITH MAXIMUM POWER. IF THE FURNACES ARE WORKING AT A LOWER RATE, THE CONSUMPTION OF ELECTRICITY CAN BE HIGHER BY EACH UNIT OUTPUT. DURING NORMAL OPERATION, IF POWER SUPPLY STOPS FOR A LONG TIME, THE MELTED COPPER IN THE FURNACE WILL FREEZE AND WILL DAMAGE. THEREFORE, THERE IS A DIESEL POWER GENERATOR IN THE PLANT, WHICH STARTS AUTOMATICALLY OR MANUALLY.
2.3. COOLING WATER SUPPLY
2.3.1. NORMAL OPERATION
WHEN COPPER ROD IS BEING CAST, THE COOLING WATER MUST BE SUPPLIED TO THE INDUCTOR OF THE FURNACE AND THE CRYSTALLIZERS OF THE UPCASTING MACHINE. IT IS VERY IMPORTANT TO ACHIEVE A SATISFACTORILY COOLING RESULT.

AS INSUFFICIENT COOLING WATER WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE EQUIPMENT, TO GUARANTEE THAT THE COOLING WATER SYSTEM WILL NOT PAUSE FOR OVER 60 SECONDS, AN EMERGENCY WATER TANK IS INSTALLED FOR INCASE OF A BREAKDOWN. THE EMERGENCY WATER TANK IS ENOUGH TO OPERATE THE UP-WARD CONTINUOUS CASTING UNIT. THE SYSTEM WORKS WITH GRAVITY.

This is a complete and presently operating line consisting of the following:
ENTRY END COMPONENTS
1) Coil Staging Ramp
2) Coil Buggy with Hydraulic Lift
3) PULCH Uncoiler equipped with hold down and rated for coils 1,000 mm wide,
1600 mm Outside Diameter, 600 mm ID and up to 8 Metric Tons
4) Complete Operator Pedestal Control Station
From here we proceed to the:
PRE-FORMING SECTION
Coil goes into entry Set of Pinch Rolls and then a 3 Roll Pyramid Style Flattener; then through a
Mechanical Crop Shear for cropping the beginning and end of Coils, a Hold down Clamp section
for welding the beginning and end of coils allowing for minimal downtime between Coil Changes.
From here to the:
FORMING SECTION
We proceed now to the Forming station with up to 14 Forming Stands. Each stand has shaft
diameter of 90 mm, Roll space of 1000 mm, Vertical Roll shaft adjustment approximately from 160 mm to 600 mm.
From here to the:
WELDING SECTION
Welding Station consisting of a like new THERMOMACHINE 400 AMP High Frequency Welder purchased
new in 2002 but not installed till Early 2005, it has seen very little use. (Note: the previous Welder a 400 AMP
NIMAK Model GTR 400 wire welder is available as a backup to the new owner if they desire.)
From here to the:
CALIBRATION OR SIZING SECTION
This section consists of 4 finish Sizing stands. Because of the sometimes inconsistent material
specifications and tight tolerance requirements of the end user, this Sizing or Calibration Section was
consistently able to (while material was still warm) to make final sizing adjustments of up to 1.5 mm.
From here we proceed to the:
CUTOFF SECTION
The Cutoff Section consisting of a high precision Rotating 4-head saw type Traveling Cutoff unit.
This type of cutoff provides for a very high precision square cut to be achieved by the present owner
due to their customer's requirement of being able to vertically stack and couple up to 7 units high.
COOLING AND DISCHARGE
Finally, the pipe is cooled by a recirculating De-Ionized water bath and then proceeding through the
exit holder conveyor a short way before discharging 90 degrees to a final stacking table for Bundling
or loading onto truck or rail.
PRESENT LINE SPEED
Because of the unique characteristic make up of the product presently made on this machine, the line
speed is presently 6 meters per minute. With the new welder this line is easily capable of achieving a
conservative line speed of 15 meters per minute with minimal modifications. For example, an increase in
line speed would require an extension to the saw head guide rails in order to have enough travel length to
complete its cut cycle. Then again if the next user doesn't require an extreme degree of squareness of the
cut, then they could switch to a single head cut off arrangement for a completed cut cycle in less travel distance.
TOOLING
Offered with the line consists of tooling to produce 6 5/8", 8 5/8", 10 3/4", 12 3/4" OD Pipe diameters
with 6 mm (.237") Wall thickness.
