Melting Equipment
Twinned 12.5t induction melting furnaces:

Primary Refining Equipment
• 12/15t Technometal AOD converter
• Bottom blown with top oxygen lance facility
• Supplied and installed by Technometal of Germany

Secondary Refining Equipment
• Twinned Vacuum-Oxygen-Decarburization (VOD) unit
• Single vacuum train, with twin hood system, designed to ensure shortest possible turn-around time in vacuum cycle

Casting Equipment
• Single stand 7m radius continuous billet caster with submerged nozzle casting configuration on the ladle turret/tundish arrangement
• 100mm x 100mm to 180mm x 180mm square section maximum capacity range (currently equipped for 115mm x 115mm through 160mm x 160mm)
• Maximum 12m lengths, with rotating cooling bed facility
• Liquid steel granulation facility, designed and supplied by Mintek
The unit has been successfully used to granulate medium carbon ferrochrome and has been used for limited quantities of low carbon ferrochrome
Finishing Equipment
A Daneli Centro Maskin twin line billet grinding facility has been installed. The unit is conveniently positioned at the end of the billet cooling bed and as required by the customer, billet grinding can be performed to achieve the highest standard of surface finish required for any down-stream rolling applications.
Laboratory Facilities
The plant is equipped with a centrally located process control laboratory. The facilities include all normal sample preparation facilities, together with twin Spectrolab (LAX X7) spark emission spectrometers which serve the process control and final dispatch analysis functions.
