HISTORY :
This Wire Rod Mill was commissioned in the late 1970’s, with an annual capacity of 300,000 tons. Material Stock is rolled through two-strand Continuous Roughing and Intermediate Mills consisting of 15 horizontal stands, and then finished after two individual offset finishing blocks. Each finishing block is a 10-Stand no-twist finishing mill with a Stelmor controlled cooling line. From the delivery end of the cooling line, the rod is coiled, bundled and transported to the shipping area by a conveyor system.
The mill has the capability of producing various sizes of rod from a 118 mm square billets which are 14.2mtrs long. It is capable of delivering product at speeds ranging from 14.2m/s(13 mm rod) to 70 m/s (5.5 mm rod). The Mill was modernized and sped up to the maximum finishing speed from 50.8 m/s to 70 m/s in the late 1980’s. In addition the existing Stelmor fan was modified to VVVF control in the early 1990’s, leading to an annual power savings.
Since the late 1990’s, the mill was again modernized with an additional speed upgrade to a maximum finishing speed of 80 m/s. To achieve this goal, a 4-stand Rod TEKISUN Reducing/Sizing mill(RSM) was installed after the No-Twist mills with all other required upgrading equipment of the latest technology. The benefit of the RSM is that rolling at 54 t/h with single family roll pass design provides over an additional 60,000 tons per year, and more precisely provides tolerance capabilities up to plus/minus 0.1 mm.
