The machine is a MANCHESTER machine, built at beginning of 1970. It produced Coated board and multiply coated board.
 
In recent years, they only ran with 7 formers but we ran 8 formers from 1974 to 1986. The machine was built to accommodate 9 formers and the framing is in place.

Drive is on the left from flowbox, deckle is 1530 mm, speed 210 m/min, grammage 70 to 45 gsm and production 28 tons/day.
The machine has two press sections with laser cut rolls for felt type marking of the papers. The machine has two size presses one of which was used for applying deep colours. The machine made many grades with quick changes between grades.
The drive is a conventional lineshaft drive with variable belt shifters.
Stock preparation
 
Pulper: stainless, batch operation with bottom mounted rotor and perforated plate, diameter 3m.
Two stainless steel stock chests with horizontal agitators approximately 3300mm diameter.
Reiss micro filter.
Stainless mixing chest with mixer.

Refiner BCI 17” Hydradisc.

Paper Machine
Allimond headbox with two evenor rolls, taper inlet multibranch manifold, slice width 1850mm, pressure operation with 14 micro adjusters hand operated, shake motion, auto wire guide, modern stainless cantilevered wet end, forming board, foils and four suction boxes stainless with polyethelene tops and foils, 600mm diameter x 1880mm width. Dandy roll with cover, suction couch with blow box for vacuum tail transfer. Automatic tail cutter. Breast roll to suction couch centres: 12 m. Wire frame centres: 2320mm.

First press: plain press with pneumatic loading.
Second and third press: pneumatic loading.
Fourth and fifth press with marking rolls: pneumatic loaded. Manufactured by SMB. Sixth press with marking roll: pneumatic loading.
 
Dryer section with thirteen dryers: 1500mm diameter, operating pressure 2.5 bars, A/F bearings with manual lubrication. Diameter 1500mm x 2150mm face.
Sheathen rope rings and A/F bearings, bolted cylinder ends.
Open gear drive. Steam and condensate siphons at rear of dryers.

Measurex cross machine scanner for moisture.

Tail transfer tape unit.

Sheathen rope feed to horizontal reel up. Mill running currently 1250mm but 1500mm diameter rolls are obtainable.
The machine was run with expanding reel bars and a unit is located at the dry end of the machine for removing shafts from cores.
Soleplate centres on the machine are 2360mm.
Two overhead machine house cranes.
Some new spare machine clothing and rolls in roll store.
At the rear of the machine is the size cooker and storage of size and colour for the papermachine.
Rewinder
 
Hanssen double drum rewinder, width 1750 mm. Pasaban shaftless floor pick up with Witchata air cooled brakes, lateral movement on the unwind. Three slitters and shaftless rewind for 1270mm diameter. Drive is on the left from the unwind, single motor drive and reel lowering table. Various reel bars of different diameters.

Two Babcock Wanson boilers: type 8WR 170, gas/oil fired with single burners, steam 17,000 kgs/hr, temp 105 deg C, power 11,622 kw, temp 210 deg C, 400 volts and 50 cycles. Year of manufacture 1998. Located on the ground floor building with large door access.
Effluent treatment

Mill effluent goes to settler where settled sludge is treated with polymer and de- watered on a 2m width belt press. Frame: stainless and all rolls on A/F bearings.

Ramish embosser, type 215H, number 730881, width approx 1000 mm, single unwind with expanding reel bar. Witchata disc brake with air cooling. The embossed sheet is fed directly to sheeter.
